The address you are listening to the voice of Sir Apirana Ngata speaking at a farewell function to Sir Peter Te Rangihiroa Buck at Auckland March 1949
"On Buck's last night in New Zealand, leaders from Ngati Whatua, the Akarana tribal executive committee and the quasi urban tribe of Ngati Akarana gave him a farewell at the Maori Community Centre on Fanshawe Street. Buck and Ngata were seated together in the place of honour on stage watching the kapa haka perform on the floor below. Notwithstanding his age and frail condition, Ngata could not help himself as he sensed a lack of vitality in the performance. He stepped off the stage, took his coat off and joined thee kapa haka. The effect on the performers was electric as they gave a performance worthy of the occasion. The next day Ngata and Buck went out to Whenuapai airport together to catch their respective flights to Gisborne and Honolulu. They bade each other farewell in the reception area with a hongi and final embrace". pg.384
